Teacher in Charge (Musical)

Today marks the end of Term One holidays. While I am typing this blog entry, the children are rehearsing their ‘classroom’ scene. “Dino’ miss a line and the cast burst into laughter, but quickly getting back into character within seconds. Working with the highly motivated cast has inspired me. Despite their hectic schedules, striking a balance between their studies and rehearsals, the children has bonded very well together.

The teachers and I were very touched by their care and concern for each other. Several students insist upon turning up despite being ill. They sat at the corner, soaking up every movement, song and speech, fearing to miss a moment. The other students would often offer to help those who are sick to sing their lines or update those who have missed a session of training without being tasked to. Each of them took it upon themselves to contribute, despite their age. The older ones took initiative to lead while the younger one demonstrated care and concern for those who lead them. I’m humbled at their maturity to take set backs, to encourage others, and to rise to the occasion.

The casting processes has been one of the most challenging and stressful process that everyone of them had to go through. They were made to sing and act in groups or individually for the main roles. Tasked to sing a new song in a matter of minutes after being taught, many of them rushed to their bags, took out a note book and began to jot down notes to the lyrics, sharing song sheets among themselves without being told. They had to volunteer to audition and were not compelled to. Each of them rose to the occasion, standing nervous but determined to give their best shot.

I was happy for those who did well, but I was particularly impressed by those who were able to take their set backs maturely. It’s impressive for children their age to accept ‘defeat’ with grace and be genuinely happy for their friends who did well. Something that even adults have problems accomplishing!

Casting has just been settled and the children are all geared up for the rehearsals. I have seen them blossom in singing, acting and most of all, character, over the short period of one term. I know these children have it within them to shine. You got to catch them in action on the 10th and 11th of July! Well, that’s all for now!

1) Do not make your back face the audience..

2) Make your actions clearly and widely.

3) Do not be nervous and do not laugh even if the people make a funny face.

I enjoyed singing session. That it have many parts. I was so happy and excited

that I didn't know the time was going on.

1) I learnt not to be distracted by the people who are watching me act.

2) I learnt to do big actions so the people at the back of the theatre can see me acting.

3) I learnt to co-operate with my group.

I enjoy acting and singing the most because acting is fun. Singing because I can learn new songs.

1) I have learnt not to shout but to project our voices.

I enjoyed the lesson when we excercise the actions we've just learnt as it was fun and interesting.

1) I must co-operate when the teacher asks us to do something, cannot waste time.

2) I must pay full attension when the teacher says something.

3) I mus speak loudly during acting.

I like the session which we did the picture freeze, it was very fun and enjoyable.

I think that the teachers should conduct more games.

1) We must be focused at all times so that we could listen teacher's instruction.

2) We must not show our backside to the audience.

It was the session when I was chosen as Jester.

I would like to improve on my introduction and ways of expression.

We respected each other by co-operating and to be obedient to our teachers and friends.
